La Battaglia di Ostia. Splendid copper engraving of 1722 with watercolor and tempera coloring. Measurement of the engraved part 48.5 x 66 cm. Reproduces the famous fresco by Raffaello Sanzio depicting the Battle of Ostia of the IX century. The Saracens attacked Rome with 63 ships and 500 knights, invaded the peninsula from Calabria to Piedmont, from Sardinia to Abruzzo. Sample in excellent condition, printed on laid paper with double circle watermark and lily. Engraved by Francesco Faraone Aquila (Palermo, 1676 - Rome, 1740) Italian engraver, brother or nephew of Pietro Aquila who threw open the doors of the Vatican for him, being himself a priest who worked for Pope Clement XI. Very important work by Francesco Aquila was the engraving of the fresco of the dome of the Cathedral of Parma by Correggio and that of the apartments of the Vatican by Raphael.
