He was a Flemish engraver who was active above all at the Prague court of Rodolfo II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, and his successors. His first bands were mostly faithful copies of Albrecht Dürer's works of the imperial collection and copies of paintings by important Italian painters such as Raffaello, Tintoretto, Parmigianino, Barocci and Titian.
