Delineatio Pugnae Navalis inter Venetos et Turcas... Beautiful and rare copper engraving published in 1652. Measuring the engraved part 28.4 x 38 cm. Shows the naval battle of 1649 between the Venetian and the Turkish fleet. The print has a small tear restored on the right, printed on laid paper without watermark. Engraved by Matthaus Merian the Elder (Basel, September 22, 1593 - Bad Schwalbach, 19 June 1650), was an engraver and designer Swiss naturalized German, who has worked in Germany. A pupil of Dietrich Meyer in Zurich, where he learned etching techniques. In 1616 he went to settle in Frankfurt where he worked for Johann Theodor de Bry (1528-1598), whose daughter Maria Magdalena married the following year. Matthäus Merian died after years of illness in 1650.
