A man subdues harpy. Beautiful copperplate engraving of 1663. Measuring 33.5 cm x 21. It represents a man who submits a harpy as recounted in Virgil's Aeneid. The print is in excellent condition, trimmed to the bar of copper, printed on laid paper without watermark. Engraved by Giuseppe Maria Mitelli from the opera "Enea Vagante carved paintings of the Carracci, and dedicated to the Most Serene Prince Leopold Doctors from Gioseppe Maria Mitelli Bolognese". Giuseppe Maria Mitelli (Bologna 1634-1718) was an Italian engraver. Son of the famous painter Agostino Mitelli, was himself a painter, but above all he was one of the most prolific engraver of the seventeenth century.
