Jesus in Nazareth. Beautiful copperplate engraving of 1581. Measuring 24.5 x 20.2 cm. Depicts Jesus just outside the walls of Nazareth, followed by a group of Roman soldiers, in the background the city of Nazareth. The print is trimmed at the edge of the illustration, for the rest in good condition. Printed on laid paper with watermark (Hollstein 190-399). He comes from a series of four engravings on the life of Jesus Christ. Engraved by Jan Sadeler I (1550-1600) from a subject invented by Maarten De Vos (1532-1603). Painter and draftsman. Pupil of Pieter de Vos, a follower of Frans Floris at Antwerp and presumably by Jacopo Tintoretto in Venice.
