San Sebastiano. Big beautiful copper engraving of 1699, reprinted posthumously in about 1820. Measurement of 64.5 x 35.5 cm part engraved. The original fresco by Domenichino has a curious history, was completely detached from the wall, the wall itself sawing directly. The wall in question was in St. Peter's Basilica, where there is now a mosaic depicting the same fresco. The original work is now at St. Mary of the Angels. The scene depicts the martyrdom of the saint, of great pictorial effect, with the cherubs playing trumpets from Heaven, while the Romans are preparing to run the terrible task, armed with bow and arrows. With a dedication at the bottom of Giovanni Francesco Barbarigo, Bishop of Verona. Engraved by Nicolas Dorigny (1652-1746), French engraver active in Rome, at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
