Born in Rome on November 20th, 1781, died in Rome on April 1st, 1835. He started his studies at the “Accademia di S. Luca” and continued in Bologna where he soon became famous. Back in Rome he began to produce a great number of drawings and prints. He illustrated works by Virgilio, Dante, Tasso, Cervantes and Aretino. In 1809 he published the “Raccolta di costumi pittoreschi” made up of 50 illustrations that precedes many more collections about the customs of Rome and other works. Pinelli was considered : “the painter of the roman people”.
